On this day 58 years ago, formerly called Gold Coast, gained Independence from Great Britain. 58 years ago, our first president and warrior pronounced “Ghana, our beloved country, is free forever!” Looking back throughout the Ghanaian journey, I cannot say I find a reason to celebrate. At all. Here are 58 things I wish for Ghana.

  1. I wish for a united country, beyond ethnic backgrounds, religion, orientation, and class.
  2. I wish for a country that holds it’s politcal “leaders” accountable.
  3. I wish for a country with a stable economy.
  4. I wish for a country that stands proud in it’s culture
  5. I wish for a country that embodies what it means to be “The Gateway to Africa.”
  6. I wish for a country that doesn’t allow trickery from policymakers.
  7. I wish for a country that doesn’t use “Tonga-ing” as a verb.
  8. I wish for a country that makes it’s word its bond.
  9. I wish for a country where homosexuals aren’t beaten and killed.
  10. I wish for a country with a free educational system.
  11. I wish, even more, for a country with an effective educational structure.
  12. I wish for a country where teachers are treated with respect and dignity.
  13. I wish for a country that doesn’t push teachers, doctors, and other integral workers to strike.
  14. I wish for a country with a stable, effective, and sustainable healthcare structure.
  15. I wish for a country where doctors spend more than 30 minutes with a a patient and prescribe malaria/fever pills for any and all illnesses.
  16. I wish for a country where patients aren’t prescribed placebo pills for real illnesses.
  17. I wish for a country where the medical staff can hold its own, without outsourcing to foreign, private companies.
  18. I wish for a country with well-equiped, cost efficient medical equipment and a well-trained staff to operate them.
  19. I wish for a country where school kids aren’t mistreated by staff.
  20. I wish for a country where teachers actually teach pertinent material.
  21. I wish for a country with a school system that hold its teachers accountable for the materials they teach.
  22. I wish for a country with a school system that mentally stimuates students to think to be individuals, not slaves to a false doctrine.
  23. I wish for a country where students do not sit at home for months and years on end to get into a univesity.
  24. I wish for a country that does not choose what a student is to study for the rest of their career, then charge them to change it
  25. I wish for a country that accepts differences as an asset and not a threat.
  26. I wish for a country that doesn’t allow it’s President to make a fool out of it internationally.
  27. I wish for a country with stable energy

  33. I wish for a country that does not blame everything and anything on witchcraft or the devil
  34. I wish for a country where families do not tear each other apart over property
  35. I wish for a country that doesn’t force itself to immitate a Western culture it does not understand.
  36. I wish for a country that doesn’t visit a neighbouring Afrian country and return with a Brittish or American accent.
  37. I wish for a country where Asamoah Gyan doesn’t mess up critical penalty shots
  38. I wish for a country that beat the United States Men’s soccer team in the 2014 World Cup.
  39. I wish for a country whose players do not disrespect their coach.
  40. I wish for a country where cowardice isn’t masked with “peacefulness.”
  41. I wish for a country where genital mutilation isn’t a norm.
  42. I wish for a country where Muslims and Christians coexist.
  43. I wish for a country where young girls, who deserve an education, aren’t being forced to marry men the age of their parents or grandparents.
  44. I wish for a country with equal opportunites for men and women.
  45. I wish for a country void of pretentious, fraudulent, self-proclaimed ministers.
  46. I wish for a country where guys call you “sis” or “sister” then ask you to be their girlfriend in the same breath.
  47. I wish for a country where girls aren’t blamed for being raped.
  48. I wish for a country that doesn’t put a stigma on diseases.
  49. I wish for a country that doesn’t encourage curruption from politicians and law officials.
  50. I wish for a country that acts at least half as much as it complains
  51. I wish for a country with unlimited Jollof rice.
  52. I wish for a country with better food regulations
  53. I wish for a country that recognizes it’s worth.
  54. I wish for a country that shatters stereotypes.
  55. I wish for a country creates an enviromment that doesn’t drive away prosperous citizens to western countries.
  56. I wish for a country where love for a neighbour is embodied
  57. I wish for a country with peace.
  58. I wish for a Ghana not in its current state @58
